Hey sorry for my tardy

Hey sorry for my tardy response, had a busy couple of days. Here's my second take for Hrisskar Flat-Foot, included some more dialog from him this time. This is probably as deep as I could comfortably go. In truth I only picked him cause he was available and I'm Norwegian so I figured putting on a nord accent shouldn't be too hard. That said I'd be happy to do any role you think I'd be more suited for, doing more British or American accents shouldn't be a problem either.

Hi again

Hi again

I made another recording focusing more on the pronunciation. I guess the d could sound a bit softer, it sounds more like t (f.ex. "blood" becomes "bloodt". But anyway, I tried to do this one with a deeper, more powerful voice. Let me know what you think :)

Best regards

A couple words (for example, "humble") need to be said properly (Humble not humple). If you can work on that side of things then i think the flavour your voice brings to the table is a welcome addition :) Please get us another audition when you have perfected pronounciations (I know accents make it a little hard.. Norwegian here :P try your best)

Since my natural range is relatively deep/strong sounding, I figure I should offer myself up for a Nord.

I'll be happy to do an actual audition, but if you want to hear what my Nord voice sounds like, please take a look here at a mod follower I voice:

http://youtu.be/1c90JGtQ_Oc

The accent is probably far from perfect; I was largely emulating the sort of mishmash you hear from some of the Nord characters in Skyrim. I can certainly make efforts to touch it up if you like the quality of my voice, though.

Hi Guys

Hi Guys

This is my first attempt at voice acting so I just choose some random voice and dialog and went with it. The closest races I could pin it to were Nord or Redguard. Let me know if there is anything I can do to improve it or if there is a character that may sound like this.

If you are happy with the samples, we could try to do any Nord characters that you think are suitable for the voices. Thanks.

Kolfinna was done pretty well. what i like about the voice doesn't matter :P So i will just say what i want your sister to work on.

1. The voice is a little too slavic (russian? polish?). You hear it when she says "circumstances" Try to make it a tiny bit more english sounding but still nordic.

2. She needs to pronounce words correctly and clearly. "Death" sounds like "debt".. things like that need to be worked on.

Other than that, it was pretty good! well done!

Now on to Bronrod.

1. When you say "Snedbrir the smith" it sounds like 1 word. It sounds like Snedbirdesmith.. who is snedbirdesmith? ... Snedbrir - The - Smith .. the words need to be properly seperated (but still sound natural of course). The same goes for when you say other names.. Bronrod Droarer? Bronrod - the - roarer.

2. Nords are not germans. So say "we" not "Vee" .. Say "want" not "Vhant" .. and so on.

Agning. (1) Not Auckanink. I realize that this is probably due to your real english accent (as are a lot of these points) but it is important to get names right. If people are playing the game without subtitles, they will think they are speaking to Auckanink and not Agning.

2. "held" not "Hhhhreld" :P

Engar Ice-mane

1. "and I know that it is a lie" not "and i know that is a lie" .. It is important that your reading matches the text as closely as possible because then, when it is added to the game, it will not confuse players when they read along with the speaking.

2. Bear not Buur. just practice ;)

3. he seems to be a proud warrior so sound a little more proud!

I want to say that the voices are not bad.. but the accent is too slavic.. so see if you can work on tweaking it a little for the Nords ... :)

I have attached a file for you to hear the names that i felt you could say a little differently.

Actually, In Swedish, Norweigan, Danish and Icelandic almost exclusively use are V's. The letter W borders on being completely unused. This is true to Norse as well. It is not a thing exclusive to Germans, but Scandinavians as well. It is not inconceivable that someone of northern descent who might not be the most skilled in a foreign language would use hard V's instead of soft W's. Though more likely would be an exaggerated W, with an emphasis on the vowel that follows. Swedish people also have a tendency to pronounce multiple words as one. If we can shorten a sentence by merging the words, we commonly will. I think in a case like that, it is also quite likely that you will not hear both, but only one of the W's turned into a hard V, if the second W follows directly after the vowel that followed the first. Here is an example; "We want" could be pronounced "wevont".

The Scandinavian accents have many quirks, and can be quite varied. Skyrim is a clan based region, with jarls ruling over different regions. So wouldn't it be realistic to reflect on the diversity of dialects? Take for instance the Swedish pronunciation of 'Jarl', where the A is pronounced like the A in bAg, where as it was pronounced 'jarl' further west.

Though I agree it sound more Slavic than Germanic.

As another Scandinavian

As another Scandinavian (Swede to be precise), here are my two cents. Listen to Max von Sydow. Not only is he Swedish, he's pronunciation is good, it's just "simple". What stands apart from other pronunciation is that it's slightly Scandinavian sounds "melodic" and "simple".

Some go to great lengths, like the woman you meet when you first go to Riverwood (the sister of the stormcloak or whatever) in Skyrim where she is clearly overdoing it. If you continue to listen to all of the other voice actors who do Nord accent almost none of them sound alike (from the youtube clip). Except for the fact that some sound like they are trying to shit Arnold bricks and others both female and male sound American through-and-through and nothing like Scandinavian people sound like.

Also, langotriel... I think you sound too russian in your How-to (just my opinion). Not even Vladimir Kulich, voicing Ulfric Stormcloak sounds that russian... and he is slavic.

NaiOni, mostly agree with what you say. But still, just because we love mashing words together (especially in Dalarna, in the middle parts of Sweden (where I'm from)), I don't see that applying to English in the same way. Obviously English uses the same kind of thing "Do not - Don't" and so on. It's just that in Swedish it's much more complicated than just taking two random words (which you already probably know). For example "Det är inte - He änt" Which means to all none Swedish readers "It is not - It's not... or It ain't". Not only do we take away letters and mash together simple words, we also change some letters to create a better flow for the pronunciation. Simply put, He änt is easier to say than De änt.

So my two cents simply are, listen to this video and try different stuff out. The worst thing to do is to sound like a moron by trying too hard!

Well while you are perhaps

Well while you are perhaps right they did specify that they would like to have a Finnish accent ( that i in my senseless nationalism approve of ) with a hint of Russian in the mix

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUqTM6kCR_U (Some Finnish pronunciation)

I myself perhaps because I'm biased like the Finnish style more because it sounds a tad rougher so i feel it fits the nord archetype better at least for the males.

I think the reason why he's making it more Russian sounding is to add a bit of a difference and distinction between the Nords in Skywind and the ones in Skyrim.

Sigh..

Sigh..

I appreciate everyone's 2 cents but i almost have a couple dollars now..

One thing i wanna address first is i never understood why people think i sound russian :P I speak monotone english and roll my Rs.. that is it. No V for W's and no Z's for S's .. it is more finnish than russian.

Second, the direction we are going is the direction we are going.. it is an accent that sounds northern, while at the same time is easy enough to imitate by English native speakers (the majority of our voice actors). It is also easy to understand.. it sounds foreign without having the disadvantages of mispronunciations of words and messy speech in general... we need to keep in mind that this project is going to reach a larger audience and the aim is to make it perfectly understandable on the first listen without the use of subtitles while still giving it a norther flavour and I feel that however inaccurate the accent may be, it achieves those goals without sounding like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Now please, if this is something people wish to discuss, take it somewhere else.. and leave this thread for auditions!

Here's my Audition for The Nord Voice. I used the Snorri lines.

I went for a more Irish voice, similiar to Brynjolf in skyrim as I think I could never pull off the accent that, for example, Ulfric or Gurder has. There is a lot of echo/reverb but there wasn't too much I could do about it.
