Hi guys -

Hi guys -

I was told this was a better place to post my offer for help - been a professional composer for some time but I've worked on music for mods for various RPGs as well. Below is a link to some youtube reels that have some of my stuff on it. If you like the style I can throw together some ambient or themed music (whatever is needed, really).

Cheers!

Hey all, Gav here (Miracle Of Sound)

This project looks awesome, you guys are free to use any of my stuff you like in the soundtrack.

This is also one of the few projects for which I'd be willing to look at making an original piece or two for if needs be, provided I'm given adequate time :)

Here's a couple of TES-ish pieces:

Hey Guys, my name is Mr. DreamRush and I have spent time writing a track for Skywind. This track is more of a collection of potential ideas on where I could take this track. Feedback from you guys is much appreciated. Thanks for listening.

This is a pretty varied presentation. I've looked at your previous game projects (Infinity & Shattered Dreams) and was not disappointed. There is a bit of a synth-vibe to a lot of your pieces however, which doesn't mesh itself well to the more orchestral feel of our soundtrack. That being said, you seem like a very good composer and I wouldn't mind hearing more of you.

Karpitsky

Interesting submission. The video is nice (I totally understand the exploration vibe) however the music material isn't really fitting of an Elder Scrolls title. Can you perhaps provide something that would better gauge your ability to write something emulating the style of Jeremy Soule?

MiracleofSound

Welcome to the team :)

Rushfan

Midi-quality submissions are unacceptable. Please refer to other works that were given the o.k. to see the bar of our expectations.

Hey Guys!

Hey Guys!

The soundtracks so far are so awesome! I always wanted to help with Skywind. But I didn't know how! I am 17 years old, play guitar, doing taekwondo, liftings weights and working as an IT Specialist. (Know a bit of Programming like C and C# but I don't really like programming)
I wrote in the Public Chatroom with mehz and I figured out I could use my guitar skills for a soundtrack.

I don't want to get into too much detail, but i just want to tell you my qualifications.
I am in the best German classical guitar Trio under the age of 21 as of last years contest (2013). That was far my biggest success in my career.
I got second place in solo guitar in Bavarian contest (2012) and one time third in Bavaria contest(2009).
I also got a third place in Bavarian contest in a guitar Quintett(2010).

These are only in classical guitar. I also play electrical guitar, western guitar, classical guitar and bass.
That is my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/Rainbowguitar27
Lately I upload more electrical guitar videos, but I am already practicing a lot for my contest in 2014 solo guitar :)
That would be Morrwind's theme:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPeHpdCPZb8
It is a pretty old video but it shows some of my skills and recording skills.

I would be so grateful if I could help you guys in any way. I have also some self composed songs (around 15) and I just love this project.

Best Regards

Kickass

Thanks for the feedback -

Thanks for the feedback - yeah a lot of those are small sample pieces or pieces from stuff I've done in the past (obviously).

The link below should have more recent stuff (as well as full sets of the older ones). If the style works, nice, if not it's all good - I understand if the style isn't compatible with the sound/theme of this project. :)

Hey everyone! I'm very new to this community and actually started a new thread trying to see where I could help, and I just stumbled across this one. Anyway, here is a little guitar thing I thought might be fitting... I am also a guitarist, and if it reaches the expectations, could record myself actually playing the track. But here's the attachment, I think it plays to the Elder Scrolls atmosphere pretty well:

Hey again, it's been quite a while since my last post.

With regards to the feedback, I’ve made a few changes to my “Explore theme 3”. I toned down some of the louder/more majestic parts to make it more appropriate for exploration.

Also, I increased the piano volume a bit and changed parts of the arrangement so certain instruments are more clear. I think it's an improvement since the last version. Thoughts Tajnarasha?

Everyone,

Everyone,

This has been a fantastic 10 months working with all of you to produce Skywind's ever-growing soundtrack. We've finally reached a point where we can say without a doubt that we've created most of the material, and that we're getting into fine-tuning to ensure the music is up to the standard that everyone hopes it can be. Sadly, this also means that there is no longer a need for creative submissions as there was in the past.

We're very happy with the constant stream of interest we've received, and we're also happy to say that we're completely satiated with the amount of symphonic composers we have. We are a very, very full team working on the soundtrack, and the more people work on this project the less likely it will be to have the level of artistic cohesion that we seek. Simply put; we cannot accept any new composers.

What we still need however, are people who can design their own sounds, or own rare and exotic instruments. Preferably, we're looking for Siberian, Mongolian, Tibetan and Turkish. If anyone wishes to join our project, we can only accept those who really (and we mean, REALLY) replicate Jeremy Soule's style.   Thank you for your endless support, and especially to those who have been with us since the start. We're looking forward to making you hear Skywind's music!

Hi!

Hi!

I'm Tim, a person on /r/gamemusic told me to check this out.

I was just imagining what bard music might sound like in Morrowind and wrote this:

http://youtu.be/7R3Okr8Wyik

When I shared it, I was pointed here.

Obviously, this is just recorded with a camcorder but I do have access to condenser mics and a recording interface. If you want me to write or record anything I'm up for it, I could even expand and record this track if you think it would be suitable but it wasn't written with this in mind. Riyten on reddit said tavern music is being treated separately.

If you write something suitable for nylons but don't just want it to sound like a guitar, I can use re-entrant tuning and campanella technique to make it sound a bit more exotic, as if it were on an instrument relying on sympathetic vibration on additional strings.

hi there, i play lots of different flutes and would like to contribute if there is any need for my abilities. here is a short demo of some of my flutes. WARNING the sound is a little high, so turn down your volume.

i play hulusi - a chinese flute.

fujara - slovakian flute

irish flute and whistle

bansuri - indian flute

i only play irish whistle on a high level but i can play well enough on the other instruments as well, that said, most of my flutes only have 1 or 2 scales, and are always in a certain key so i might not be able to play a melodi if it uses halfnodes etc.

YES! I need bansuri for Vivec and fujara for Ashlands/Grazelands (just try to make it sound less... Slovakian if it's possible :P). Hulusi we can probably use as well, pentatonic is always good. Hit me up in the chat!

Hey guys.

Hey guys.

Please check the link below for 4 tracks composed by myself for the Skywind soundtrack. They're atmospheric, and I think remain in the style of the music from the previous games..

https://soundcloud.com/ben-pickering-10/sets/skywind-music

Please let me know if you intend to make use of this music, and whether you would like me to compose any more for the game.

Cheers,

Ben.

One more thing, quickly.

One more thing, quickly. Scrolling up I saw the post by Tajnarasha re: not requiring any more composers. I submitted a piece a few months ago which is getting close to 1000 youtube views, and I feel like i can replicate Jeremy Souls' mood and atmosphere pretty closely, check out the music on the above link which I think could be an asset to the game. Apologies for 3 posts in a row!

I love the Skywind Soundtrack

I love the Skywind Soundtrack so much I've added it to my Skyrim and Oblivion Music lists.  But I have one suggestion. and this is speaking from experiencing them as ambient music.  Lose the vocal tracks, or at the very least re-record them with out the vocals. Talent aside (which is amazing) vocals in ambient music is very distracting.  You wouldn't believe how often you'll be standing on a hill, looking at an amazing vista then you hear, "Ahhhhhhhhh" and you look around to figure out what the noise is only to say to yourself "oh, it was the music."

Again, the music is great, but it's the vocals that are distracting.  It's just like scoring in a movie,  If there's dialog, don't have singing. if it's an intense horror sequence, don't have screaming.  If it's a huge monster fighting a huge Robot, don't have roars.  Point is, don't add anything that would exist in the scene naturally.

Now that's not to say the Vocals have no place at all, but I would say to leave them in the big massive battle music pieces.  There, the rules for scoring scenes can be thrown out the window.  For the best example of this I direct you towards Star Wars.  Every piece is devoid of vocals until it hits a part where it'll be used during fight scenes.

Yeah, screw it, let's just

Yeah, screw it, let's just scrap 16 months of work and get back to the original 8 tracks, so that they play everywhere, over and over again. Guys... The soundtrack will be balanced, and it will have a proper Morrowind feel to it, especially now that Leon van der Stadt joined us. The vocals will only be applied in the fitting situations, probably not in exploration music, unless it's just for dawn/dusk. Same goes for tribal music, only one region will be mostly tribal, other ones will only have such accents. And I disagree that it's unnecessary - Morrowind storyline is all about getting to know the cultures you encounter and becoming a part of it, so music should also showcase Dunmer music. Especially around ashlanders.

Skyrim uses vocals too, choirs and solo voices like Sopranos (in "Tundra") and Jeremy Soule used a Tenor in the track "Masser" and other tracks. Vocals are going to be used in Skywind in the appropriate places/regions and we won't exclude them because you find it distracting. The irony is that you don't want to have vocals in ambient music yet you have the Skyrim OST in your music list...

Hi Darthxile, thanks for your

Hi Darthxile, thanks for your feedback. As Dragomir and Leon have pointed out; we're hard at work to make sure the soundtrack for Skywind will be as good as it can be. The question of vocals in exploration music came up internally within our group and there were definitely instances where we had to fine-tune some tracks to make them cohesive with the rest of the music, that being said we have some incredible vocal talent on-board and we ultimately determined that their addition only enhanced the sound of Skywind, rather than detract from it.

Remember that this thread is mostly used by artists to showcase their work - their is a LOT going on behind the scenes to ensure those tracks are in the right spot in Vvardenfell, and we hope that you will enjoy our artistic direction once the time comes to unveil everything.

Cheers!

Hey,

First you need a MIDI keyboard and a Audio Card with ASIO drivers, then after that you will need a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software like; Logic, Sonar, Pro Tools, Cubase or FL Studio, ect...

After that you will need some 3rd party software called VST (Virtual Studio Technology), which are actually virtual instruments. Some major brands are; East West, 8Dio, CineSamples, Garritan, Audiobro, Native-instruments, ect...

After that you can have some plugins to Mix and Master your music to really let your music shine like a Compressor, EQ, Reverb, limiter, ect...  One of the major brand for those plugins is Waves.

If your question about "a good recording/ editing program" is referring to a DAW, then I would recommend Cubase, but maybe you'll find Logic or FL Studio easier to use, it's more of personal preference since all those DAW's are doing actually pretty much the same.

If you have some questions left please let me know!

To add to what has been said,

To add to what has been said, if you want to start off with testing writing orchestral stuff, there is a free sample/instrument pack called sonatina symphonic orchestra. It's of course not as good as non-free samples, but as far as I know, it's pretty much the best you can get for free.

After that I think that Miroslav Philharmonik is a very, very cheap but very great package of pretty much everything. (Maybe just get that instead of free stuff.)

Now if you get good at making those cheaper libraries sound really great with lots of tweaking, I think that's a big benefit  because you can carry over that tweaking to amazing sounding, expensive packs and get a truly great sound.

Hm, just throwing that in, needed or not.
