Noobie Having Installation Problems

Hi, erm, please just bear with me, as is this not only my first time attempting to download and use a mod, but I'm also on a brand new machine with Windows 8.1 and still trying to figure all of this out. I'm like, 99.99% sure the problem is me doing something wrong, I just have no idea where or what it is, so I'm going to be as detailed as I possibly can.

I have, installed and working, the complete games of both Morrowind and Oblivion installed from disks (but they do show up on my Steam account). I downloaded all the prerequisites that are listed: • Unofficial Oblivion Patch (and to be honest, I don't have the slightest clue where to place this), • Official Oblivion 12416 Patch (also don't know where to place this) [this is a presquisite to use the Unofficial Oblivion Patch], • Obse_0021's (placed in the Oblivion>Data), • Ely's Silent Voice (placed in Oblivion>OBSE>Plugin), • MenuQue Obse (Oblivion>Data).

After all of that, I have downloaded the Morroblivion v063a Master-file Installer and the Morroblivion v063 Complete Resources (also not sure if these need to be placed somewhere specific). This is where things and I definitely go wrong. On the detailed page, it instructs to "Unpack the .exe file from the archive and run it." My computer doesn't recognize this file and thus asks me what program to use (none are listed) and then brings me to the App store, in which I just downloaded a program called Unpacker. I have no idea if I'm suppose to be using a specific program or if it doesn't matter. After I open that program and unpack the .exe, I go to open it and an error pops up stating that "This file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."

Annnnd that's as far as I've gotten with this, because Google is currently failing me lol. Any more details and such would be a major help, because I know this works, it's just me doing something wrong, and I want to start playing this asap lol. Please and thank you!

EDIT: So I did some rummaging and discovered that 7zip is the program to use, so I have acquired that and tada! - the .exe works, so I go to hit install for that and then an error message pops up exclaiming: "You haven't got Morrowind GOTY in this directory!" So, I'm not sure exactly what that means, and how to go about fixing this.

Unofficial Oblivion Patch

Unofficial Oblivion Patch (and to be honest, I don't have the slightest clue where to place this)

It's installed like any other mod. I'm pretty sure there should be installation instructions on UOP's Nexus page somewhere.

Official Oblivion 12416 Patch (also don't know where to place this)

Official patches come as exe installers IIRC.

Obse_0021's (placed in the Oblivion>Data)

No, OBSE goes into base Oblivion folder. It has installation instructions in the readme.

MenuQue Obse (Oblivion>Data)

MenuQue goes in the same folder as USV.

"You haven't got Morrowind GOTY in this directory!" So, I'm not sure exactly what that means, and how to go about fixing this.

This means pretty much exactly what it says - installer cannot find Morrowind files in directory you selected. Make sure you've specified the right directory - the one where Morrowind.exe is located.

My mistake, the OBSE is

My mistake, the OBSE is actually in the Oblivion folder, not the sub Data folder, I must of just wrote that out of confusion or nonsense. On the other hand, I have no idea what IIRC or USV  are supposed to stand for me (like I said, I have never done any of these before, so I know next to nothing). I checked the Nexus instructions for the install and it doesn't say exactly where to put it, but on the Shivering Isles page it said to extract and place into the Oblivion folder, so that's what I did with the regular patch, so hoping that is correct.

I've gone through my folders and found exactly where all of my Morrowind files are, including the .exe and Tribunal and Bloodmoon, and then opened the installer and selected that folder in which they are in currently (I never moved anything around), and I continue to get the same message saying they are not there, but I can see them there.

I uninstalled the 7zip program and reinstalled, and it worked for whatever reason - the finding Morrowind part.

IIRC is just an internet

IIRC is just an internet acronym for "if I remember correctly".

USV is Ely's Universal Silent Voice.

Unofficial patch is installed in Oblivion\Data - this is generally where all mods are installed.

Official Bethesda patches are exe installers, so you'll have to run it and follow the installation process.

Wow, I feel stupid for the

Wow, I feel stupid for the IIRC thing now haha, I'm really behind on my whole lingo talk because I just don't use them usualyl haha.

Anyhow, the proper files are where they should be for the most part, but now I'm attempting to install the Official patches and I keep getting this error: "Old file was not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match." I've gone through the readme file, and don't see anything containing this. :/

EDIT: Google says it's because I installed the Shivering Isles Patch before Oblivion, but I know for a fact I didn't actually install it. Also, I was asking a friend with some help who toys with this stuff, and now I know for a fact that everything is in its rightful place and all the mods are turned on. I then just deleted the Official patches all together and went to redownload the Oblivion patch and then attempted to install the patch, and the same message keeps popping up.

To be honest I do strongly

To be honest I do strongly recommend you, to get both of the Elder Scrolls GOTY's (game of the year edition). They are cheap, and they are up to date, so you will not have any problems with the patches.

The error massage, could potentially stay for anything. It could mean, that you don't have to install the patches, because you already installed the newest version of the game, or that your file order got damaged somehow.

p.s : When did you clean up your registry the last time ?

I have both editions of the

I have both editions of the game already, all legitimate copies, nothing pirated. I did just buy them, so perhaps they are up to date, and that's the reasoning behind the error message, so maybe there's just nothing update?

And I'm not 100% sure what a registry, but the computer is a week old.

I am quite sure, that you

I am quite sure, that you ONLY need the oblivion unofficial patch if you have the GOTY. At least it worked for me.

You will find a very precise installation guide under this link https://tesrenewal.com/forums/oblivion/morroblivion-mod-rele...
