Voice Acting Hub and Instructional Guide

THE VOICE ACTING PROCESS:

Auditions for Voice Acting roles should be posted in the APPROPRIATE RACE OR UNIQUE AUDITION THREADS. Try to pick what you feel you are most suited for accent wise and give it a go! Try to make sure you have a good level of audio quality when recording, but we are looking for accents and acting ability at this stage. There are sample lines available in the first post of each audition thread. All races are currently open. You will be contacted by PM if you are selected with more instructions. We recommend that you have your tesrenewal account linked to your email so that you will be easily notified. A recording guide can be found here for tips and tricks as well as microphone and software recommendations.

FOR ASSIGNED VOICE ACTORS ONLY:

  1. Once you are selected, please download your scripts from this sheet HERE and then use the merge script program. This is absolutely mandatory and it will save you a lot of work and keep our audio file space requirements reasonable.
  2. Then submit a sample of 3-4 recorded lines on this page (upload via dropbox or other hosting service) for review AND message Smitehammer so someone actually looks at it, before tackling all of your lines. At this stage we are looking at audio quality so follow the guide here and you will most likely be approved. Recording two sets of your lines, one at a normal talking volume level line and a second with reduced volume for your combat (loud) lines is what we like to receive. Please submit all recordings as raw/un-altered as per our recording guide as we will be doing all mixing for consistency.
  3. Once you get approval of your sample, record all of your lines and then link them on this page for final tweaking and submission along with your merged script so we have something for the filecutter minions to work off of. Please record your lines in the order they appear on the script so it is easy for us to cut up. If you have any questions about pronounciation feel free to post in this thread and Smitehammer will get back to you shortly. If you have questions about your lines feel free to PM Taerkalith or post on the bottom of this thread.

NOTE: If you are having trouble opening the excel files, try changing your file extension from .xls to .xlsx. This seems to fix the problem for some people.

Is there somewhere where I can find the dialogue lines for some of the characters? The .xls file won't work.

Is there some space for German Voice-actors maybe for a German soundpack? I do have interest to speak a breton or imperial, but my English could just be with a little accent *laugh*

@More trees

@More trees

Our experience with germans has been mixed. They always seem to have accents that are too heavy for bretons (which means they are WAY too heavy for any other race). As far as a german soundpack is concerned, that would be an absolutely insane job to do.. we are doing huge amounts of work already and if you are to keep it in line with skywind, you would have to translate every line. There might be people out there that are willing to do that, but then they have to do it themselves as both smitehammer and I don't really know german. Sorry :/

So what do you want to do now? prove me wrong? or find others ways to help?

Inspired by Dragomirs

Inspired by Dragomirs Ordinator artwork, I decided to try and make a sample of all four Ordinator orders. I did my best to make each order have a unique personality. Especially the Order of Inquisition, since they're like "Ordinator C.I.A" according to Dragomirs description. So I made them "Whispery Spooky". The samples are based off of Dragomirs description of each Order. https://soundcloud.com/morrowindshorts/the-orders-of-ordinators

This should probably have gone in the Dunmer Audition thread and not here but.. alright. I think your dunmer is pretty sweet... it is the same but different to what we want and so it will do nicely for some variety :) Find Smitehammer in the chat.. he handles dunmer for the most part and he can say where your voice would fit the best.

We are going through an overhaul process and redoing assignments. Unless smitehammer assigned you within the last month or so, you might need to reaudition.

@Morrowindshorts

I was assigned Ordinators, Fast Eddie,Elam Andas,Berel Sala,Taros Dral, and Missing Hand Salas Valor. I auditioned for each and I completed three. I am aware of the overhaul and recently sent the completed characters to Smitehammer. I'm not reauditioning anything.

I'm happy to try and record

I'm happy to try and record some lines in German if it gets that far, my pronunciation isn't perfect, but I can speak it reasonably well. That being said, I would not translate it as my grammar is atrocious. And I agree it would be an insane amount of work (best left to an expansion after main pack is completed?)

Just ran into all this

Just ran into all this randomly (the entire TES Renewal Project) and it immediately caught my attention.  Then I saw the "Looking for voice actors" part and it caught my attention even more.  If I could I would love to be able to try out some.  I have a degree in audio engineering and some experience with voice acting and am really looking for something to do while searching for a job (after graduating last month) and also it sounds like fun.  Any way I could get some info or examples of what to audition with (lines, etc.)?

Hey, was wanting to let you

Hey, was wanting to let you know all of the orcs assigned to me have already been uploaded to the skydrive, quite some time ago. It's marked as incomplete, my other roles I won't be able to do as of now, so if anyone wants them they are more than welcome to them. I'll probably be back up and running for voicing again soon.

Please send me script samples

Please send me script samples you would like to hear for:

Redguard, Dark Elf and Orc. Would it be OK to post on one for all or would you like to be on each thread.

Thanks

Having them for each thread

Having them for each thread would be best, so when it comes time to assign roles we can go through those audition threads and listen for the best voice to suit whichever character.

I would like to help out with voice acting but due to my high pitched voice I most likely can only do kid voices. I dont even remember if there are any children npcs in Morrowind. If you want I can send a sample anyway.

So I remember a few months

So I remember a few months back someone talking about asking Michael Kirkbride about what he thoughts were regarding the voices of the Tribunal. Did MK ever get back to us on that? I'm wondering because I was thinking of doing an audition for Vivec, and if you guys any any specific direction in mind for that character.

As long as it is auditions, I

As long as it is auditions, I don't really think it is that important. That being said, Smite does link to how you export Audacity files to .mp3, so it is probably prefered if you are uploading files to the website. You'll see people using SoundCloud as an alternative. Of course the better the quality, the better the chances of judging your performance.

I'm just trying to follow up

I had recorded and completed lines for Hassour Zainsubani and Crassius Curio. If possible, I'd like to do the former's lines again. Placed samples in the proper thread but I figured I should edit this post and add in my old demo reel from before.

That is a work currently in progress, if you want to audition for a part just look up the character through Google, there are loads of websites that have dialog from Morrowind written down.

EDIT: Lango beat me to it! :) Ignore this.

I've been told my mic is very good quality and that I have a capacity for accents (though i've never listened to a play back) I might be able to hit that grovily pitch for a Dark Elf if not, I can put on other accents and maybe my voice be more useful somewhere else. (Northern English dialect but clean spoken, can do accents.)

Could I be Pm'd some misc lines or something? I'm having trouble finding the lines myself.

I'm sorry for asking such a newbie question, but I have great mics, recording software, and pretty decent acting experience.  I'd love to audition for a few roles, but I can't find the dialogue that people are using to audition.  Is there an excel file with roles that are already filled and somewhere I can get the dialogue from?

Hello! I noticed this project

Hello! I noticed this project when it was posted on reddit's Morrowind sub. I have a very feminine, soft voice, but I can easily sound like a young girl, too.

Should I just read lines from the one Murkling posted and then submit them directly to the audition thread? Or is it recommended to receive feedback first?

Thanks in advance!

The first post of each

The first post of each audition thread should have a short description of the nuances of the voices for that particular race, for the most part.

Hello! I've been following

Hello! I've been following this for a while now and haven't really had the nerve to create and account but I decided after reading about the latest progress.

I have a mid ranged voice but I can make my voice low and raspy. I was reading through the races but I wasn't sure if you want female Argonians or Khajiit. I could do both and I can probably do Orc women too. Let me know if I can help. If not in this way then maybe in others.

I appear to have the same problem as many people here, in that I'm not quite sure what I should read for the audition, but barring anything specific you'd have in mind, I'll read from the Google doc linked earlier in the thread. At the moment it's quite late (early?) for me, but I'll check back when I wake up and hopefully have a few samples to post thereafter.  I look forward to (potentially) working with you all.

By popular demand, I included sample lines that could be read for each race in the first post of each audition thread.  Auditions don't HAVE to use these lines, but they're there for convenience.

Also, a note to everyone - please read through the voice descriptions for each race for an idea of the style of voices I'm looking for for each race.

Just figured I would share a nice playlist of some voices that I've done.  I've done many more Skyrim mods, but not many have videos posted on Youtube, so if you guys need any other examples of me, just lemme know.  I tried out for just a few races, and don't know exactly where  my voice could possibly fit in, but my voice is in a high range...hopefully there are some characters that I would be suited for.

If kids are included at some point, I'd defiently say you'd be able to do voice over for those, the ones you've done are top notch! The bard is really great too! I'm not a fan of the voiceover for Beatrice however, sounds a bit too superficial. Maybe Bosmers would be a good place to start?

Are you sticking to the accent rules pretty firmly?  I've noticed in vanilla skyrim it's not always consistent what accents are used.  For example, Bretons speak a wide variety of accents from American to European.

Bretons are a special case,

Bretons are a special case, as High Rock is basically a bunch of little kingdoms akin to Europe in size and cultural diversity.

"Bretons are based after real-world Bretons, the celts of France.  So French, 'Celtic' (Irish, Welsh, etc.), British (not as 'proper' as Altmer or Imperial, but other colloquial dialects), Belgian, even Spanish or Portuguese works well for them."

American accents we're trying to keep to only certain Cyrodils, Redguards, and Bosmer.

Hi, I randomly found/read an article on a games website that said you were looking for volunteer voice actors.  I'm UK based (Welsh but without a Welsh accent) I'm no talented voice actor, but I'm a trained sound engineer and own some decent microphones etc. I could put some higher quality voice work together if you guys still need it?  I have no idea where to start in regards to race/auditions however.  I've played TES:IV, Skyrim and Fallout 3 but not deeply enough to remember which races have which accent etc, a bit of guidance to what you need would be great.

Below is a Soundcloud link to my natural voice recorded with a decent signal chain.
