Skywind Intro Voiced: Download and Discussion

Hey folks,

I've spent the day making a mod or two for Skywind just for fun. I have taken the original Morrowind voices that occur at the beginning of the game and converted them so that they work with Skywind. The whole Skywind Intro that can be voiced using Morrowind original game voices is done with this and it works pretty good. I made this just for fun. I am in no way trying to take away work from someone else who may have already done this. This was about me practicing more advanced modding techniques.

I had to convert the original Morrowind MP3 files into WAV in order for the Creation Kit to be able to use them. This may or may not be the proper way of doing it as WAV files are fairly large audio files and if the whole game were done in WAV it would be huge. But at any rate I got these and lip files working pretty good. I had to edit the Skywind dialogue a little bit to fit the original Morrowind voice overs and one whole piece of dialogue isn't even used but I included it anyways.

It is about as good as it can get. A little glitchy when talking to the guy to get your release papers and that is where one whole line of dialogue that is in Skywind is not used but as I said I included it anyways.

As a bonus mod you get Skyrim Seyda Neen Outfitted a mod I made again just for fun which gives all the characters in Seyda Neen an outfit. These mods are just for fun and about me practicing my modding skills. This is the first time I've done anything with voices. Anyways I hope you like my work. Enjoy and remember it is all about FUN!

@Sputnick - LOL! Yeah I guess

@Sputnick - LOL! Yeah I guess I did go a little overboard with that word. I am thinking about doing some of the generic dialogue so that characters will be talking when you pass by them. This I can do. I can't do voice overs for other types of dialogue. I am not a good actor. My recorded voice sounds awful and I don't have the equipment need to do that kind of thing.

I just took a look at how

I just took a look at how generic dialogue is set up in the Skyrim Creation Kit. Lets just say there are hundreds of them. Not a project that I wish to take on myself and this is probably already being worked on by someone else. Just looking at it was overwhelming. So that idea is a no go for me. I just don't have the time it would take to do all the generic dialogue with my busy schedule.

Chris, if you are

Chris, if you are enthusiastic to help with getting Skywind voice acted but don't have a lot of time, feel free to lend an hour or two to this endeavour below. Its one of the last few things that needs to be done before we can hand out complete scripts to our VAs. Cheers

@taerkalith - Thank you for

@taerkalith - Thank you for inviting me to help. I read through the info on the link you gave and don't quite understand it all just yet to a point of saying Yes I can do this. I don't have MS Office on my PC which might pose a problem. We have a copy of MS Office 2007 that I may be able to get onto this computer if you can use it on more than one computer. That is hurdle number one. Ok and if I am able to get Excel on my PC what exactly in just a few sentences do I need to do. From what I read I pick a Cell I want to work with that hasn't already been taken and then somehow sort the dialogue for that cell. Am I following what I read correctly? Ok when I get a cell completed then how do I save all the work and give it back to you guys?

I want to at least try to do this because I just did about 10 lines of malemorrobosmer voice over and when I went in the game to see if it worked none of the characters speak. I turned on the subtitles and all that so I could see if characters were speaking and I get dialogue that you get when you speak to a character but none of them are engaged in idle chatter or simply speak to you when you pass by. I wanted to test this out on Fargoth so I did about 10 lines of malemorrobosmer dialogue and none of them work. I walked passed other characters in the game with the subtitles on and none are engaging in idle chatter. So I need to back up and this project may be something I could do. I just don't understand it all completely yet and I don't want to take on and assignment without knowing exactly what to do.

First thing though is I've got to try to get MS Office on my PC then we will look at the other stuff. Again I appreciate you invitation to help. I've been wanting to help with something and have been doing things on my own hoping someone would notice and you did. Anyways keep me posted and I am going to try to get that software on my PC.

There are many free word

There are many free word processors available online. even notepad should suffice for opening most of the documents provided. You don't need excel as you would be entering the data into an online google doc excel.
In short you pick a cell not already taken, look in the idle banter document folder (one of the links at the bottom of the description) and then proceed to enter the info into the online google excel (one of the other links at the bottom).

EDIT: make sure you read Justafan's instructions carefully! there's a lot of important details in his description post I haven't covered in my brief explanation!

Your bosmer lines may not be working because you may not have generated a .lip file. basically Bethesda uses their own compression software that takes a sound file (.wav I believe but don't quote me) and matches a generated lip sync file to it and you end up with a tiny .lip file. if you want to do it for your own sake the online creation kit wiki may have some tutorials.

Hey and thanks. I was able to

Hey and thanks. I was able to get MS Office 2007 on my PC with no problems. So cool deal there.

My Bosmer lines are not working because none of the characters are engaged in idle chatter or speak to you when you pass by them. It may have something to do with the version of Skywind I have. I turned on the dialogue and subtitles and walked all around Seyda Neen and none of the character spoke to me. Now if I spoke to them by activating them with the E button then I would get what they had to say showing up on the screen but idle chatter and Hellos are just not there in the version of Skywind I have so I am going to back up and see if I can be of some help with this project. Right now though I have to do some big updates to MS Office as this is a clean install but thank you again. I appreciate all of this.

Well, I figured out why the

Well, I figured out why the characters are not engaging in idle chatter or hellos and that would be that the parameters of the dialogues are not set up right. First of all there are two in the list that are not even needed and the others are out of order of importance and finally Random must be checked as a parameter. I made all these changes and Fargoth spoke to me. He said hello and being that I went in with a Nord character he said "To what do I own the honor, Nord." or something like that. Man all of that stuff is going to have to be fixed for every character if you want them engaging in idle chatter and random greetings. Basically with the Wood Elf or Bosmer you want the location parameter at the top of the list as being in Morrowind is top priority. You don't want Skyrim characters saying stuff that Morrowind characters are supposed to say. The next parameter is the Race of the subject in this case a Wood Elf. Third is the sex of the subject which with this one is male and finally the Target Race which is you and what race you are to generate a specific random greeting and Random must be checked. I also unchecked the subtle parameter because that is not needed and the other two parameters in the list I deleted as they are not needed as well. So now I have Fargoth saying hello to me when I get near him. Cool deal. There are lots of random greetings for every race and lots of idle chatter but hopefully what I have posted here will help those who are working on these to understand why the characters are not saying anything unless these changes are made.
