Has progress slowed?

Hi, guys. Don't take this question the wrong way. I'm not trying to hassle anyone. I'm just curious. About a year ago, the forum seemed to be more active, with frequent updates from the devs showing concept art, models, screenshots, etc.

I check back here fairly often, but seldom see anything new under 'Skywind Active Topics'.

Is a lot of work getting done 'behind the scenes' and it's just not being shown to the general public? Or has progress slowed as much as the lack of activity on this forum would suggest?

we dont post stuff in our own

we dont post stuff in our own forums anymore really, and rarely in our own dev hidden forum.

Some progress has slowed i think, at least in visuals, and some areas, like creatures, have completely stopped, because the team members stopped working, and nobody new arrived/stayed.

We need more skilled/experienced/professional people to finish.

That's a shame. If I could

That's a shame. If I could help with stuff like that, I would, but I lack those skills and my life is way too busy to start learning them now.

If you want to attract new people with the right skills, wouldn't a short-term limited release be a big help? I know the Beyond Skyrim guys are pretty close to their Bruma release, which I think will give them tons of exposure and positive attention. Wasn't there a plan to do something similar with Balmora for TES Renewal? Surely it'd be easier to get something like that out in the short-term, and then, once fresh talent is drawn in, continue to work on the rest of the mod.

Just my two cents.

What needs to be done as far
What needs to be done as far as creatures? 3D modeling? Animation? Pretty soon I'm gonna be working with the landscaping department, but I'm a quick learner and I can see if I can figure something out on my own and then apply again.

It's not that easy to go

It's not that easy to go about it, just attracting new volounteers can prove more of a problem than help. There might not be other way than to have them all come and pick out the best ones, but in the past, when the development was more open, most of the activity was spam, useless suggestions and too many people doing work that wasn't up to standards enough to make it in, often even without having it assigned to them. So even though the activity in the forums has dropped, the actual progress is far from stalled. Most work is being done behind the scenes, mostly because too much non-constructive criticism and bad "feedback" has proven to be a great obstacle for the project in the past.

That said, there is a new dev video in the works, and it will show about a year of progress, which is definetly not little. Voice acting is finally being done properly, and a ton of new landscape assets was made, as well as interior tilesets and clutter. It might not be as exciting as armors, but the game would lack less from not having one armor set, than missing an entire tileset.

Wolfzie - as far as I know modelling is not that much of an issue for creatures. We just have very few animators who can actually animate (Miroslav being the only one currently I think, Deadman seems to be living up to his name lately), so it's near impossible to make new animations at a pace that we need. But the biggest problem is not even animations themselves, it's the lack of people who know Creation Kit well enough to be able to implement them. It's really tricky, the number of skeletons seems to be hardcoded and has to be worked around Skyrim creatures, and even that is difficult, not to mention it's a horrible limitation (Bonelords will have two of their four arms static because of that). We used to have Ehamloptrian and Alexb doing this sort of stuff, and they're missing as well.

I agree that maybe just

I agree that maybe just posting small things alot more frequently would gain alot more interest in the mod. Thats why beyond skyrim is as succesful as it is, they post regularly to keep people interested.

What Ravanna said combined
What Ravanna said combined with us moving develeopment away from the forums. The forums are a poor tool for a project such as Skywind. Some departmens thrive and some dont. Voice acring for example, is extremely active. We can't make progress in areas where we have no people. BS has fewer applications than we do. Quite a few actually. Its one of the areas where they are stuck as well. But lets not turn this into a pissing contest.

Too add to what has been said

Too add to what has been said above: Coding development and game design are going on "behind the scenes", but we don't want to say anything about that - because of the restrictions we face with the implementation - until it's all done, to avoid confusion, misinformation and disappointment, because we might have to change / scrap stuff.

As mentioned above, Voice

As mentioned above, Voice Acting is really picking up. Had a breakthrough which allowed me to generate the remaing 550 unique NPC scripts so that's picking up in a big way now. You'll see this in the upcoming dev video.

SFX is also going strong right now. A good database of sounds are being built up and will be implemented shortly.

Music hasn't had that much going on recently but the lion's share of the work is done in this category in terms of composing as well with about 4hrs of curated music out of the much grander total that has been written for Skywind.
