CTD Dwemer / Daedric Ruins

Hello,

I am hoping someone here might have a solution:

Morroblivion has been very stable, for me, until recently (3½ hours in). When approaching Mzuleft, I got a 100% crash while making way to the doors, leading to Mzuleft's interior. I left the area, waited 3 days, and was able to make it to the doors, and inside, though when I attempted to leave, I got a CTD (luckily, I saved just before exiting). I was able to exit Mzuleft after the reload. I found a netch in the lava, outside, and wonder if that could be related.

Another CTD area was the daedric ruins, near Punabi. After reloading, I steered clear of the area, until having to return for the Fighter's Guild quest, involving the orcs that inhabited the place, but had no CTD this time.

The last CTD I kept encountering was at the daedric ruins, north of Hla Oad. I would fast travel to the mines along the Odai River, to that area, from Wolverine Hall. I haven't even been to those ruins yet (or even Hla Oad, for that matter), so I don't know if it has to do with the corrupt spawn points I've read about. I tried waiting 3 days at that egg mine, but it crashed during the wait dialog, and I gave it a rest.

There is one idea that comes to mind though: creatures. Are the Morroblivion creature additions stable? If they aren't the case, then it must be the daedric / dwemer architecture, causing the crashes.

I use ENBoost, Purge Cell Buffers ++, 4gb Patch, far distance disabled, UOP, Morroblivion Fixes 1.8, etc.

I went into the Construction Set and began replacing Morroblivion creatures with Oblivion alternatives, but I'd rather not do all this if the creatures aren't the culprit.

If it seems like the CTD is

If it seems like the CTD is consistently associated with crossing into a new Cell / Cell-loading at a specific point on the map, then you can try the fix here: https://tesrenewal.com/comment/85043#comment-85043.  The fact that you have PCB++ and distantlands disabled might negate the benefits of this fix, but it's worth a try.  From my experience, a CTD which is associated with a map area which is not there when starting a new game, is related to corruption in your saved game file and not associated with assets which are unchanged between gamesaves: ex: static meshes, ACRE (creature) and ACHR (npc) references.  Although unlikely, LVLC (leveled creature) references could potentially cause intermittent crashes, explanation below...

TIP:  If you can start a new game and travel to that exact area without any crashes, then I think it is very unlikely to be due to architecture meshes since these will not change from gamesave to gamesave.  Similarly, individually placed creature references will also not appear as a crash which affects one gamesave but not another (since those creatures would be in all gamesaves).  There is a remote possibility that it is tied to bugged leveled creature list (specifically, I bugged creature within the list which is otherwise working) -- this is because leveled creature lists dynamically choose which creature is actually placed on the map depending on PC level, random number generation, etc.

Many good points! I'm going

Many good points! I'm going to put Morroblivion back in, and give this a shot. In truth, I have swapped in other mods, such as the Morroblivion fixes / Better Creatures, mid-game. I did not think this would have an impact, but from what I'm getting, it very well could have, given your explanation.

I'm about an hour in, with a new character, and still got a crash. I did apply that tweak you mentioned in the thread that you linked, about background cell loads.

The area that crashed was the farmhouse related to the quest Tul's Escape. Unfortunate.

Do you have any tweaks in mind that I could apply to stop these spontaneous CTDs?

Edit: I saved not far from the area that CTD'd on me. Upon reloading, I ran up to the area just fine. I don't know what the issue is, but the experience goes from entertaining adventure to a game of Landmine.

TDT revealed 0 tasks

TDT revealed 0 tasks (sometimes changes for a split second), and running at approximately 60fps, constant.

I wonder, am I alone in these unexplained crashing issues? My mod list is incredibly short, too (attached).
