I'm gonna look into some more, should I wait for the template, or can I just continue using my own?
Continue using your own for now until template is finished. Because I can covert other formats later.
I did three new random events. Added them to the existing document so that they were all gathered in one place.
While I was writing them, I realized I don't know how long the lines of the player can be? I saw something about changing the dialog system to better fit Morrowind, not sure how that effects the dialog. I suppose these quests are going to be coordinated with the voice over team as well?
I like the idea of an undead encounter. The only problem with this is that the Dunmer burn their dead, and store the ashes in the ancestral tombs. Perhaps, instead, you could see a named ghost (or group of ghosts?, a dead family?) going about their business in Vvardenfell, much like the forlorn watchman in oblivion. They need not be hostile. I really liked this oblivion quest and it could certainly be a reusable and interesting encounter as long as it wasn't overdone. Perhaps the ghost will only be encountered if that npc has died in the game world, such as Ralen Hlaalo's ghost before you solve the murder and he can rest in peace. Perhaps if you killed them they would be hostile.
So, here's five (seven in theory) ideas for encounters in the wilds. Possible dialogue is written out with some conversation options and dialogue options that could appear if the player has done certain things in the game:
#1 - No one expects the Almsivi Inquisition - An Ordinator tries to detain an Ashlander, resulting in a fight. Dialogue of survivor is included, with some options that would only appear if the player is Nerevarine/Arch-Canon or member of the Temple.
#2 - Netch in Mourning - A simple one, a bull and betty netch are hovering over a netch calf, mourning its loss or the netch calf is mourning a dead parent/parents. There could be dead animals or hunters nearby that killed the netch.
#3 - Hunters - A small band of hunters is attacking a group of animals (Guars, Netches). The player could either stand back, help the hunters or save the animals. Helping the hunters option could let you use them as basic traders for animal loot, like Skyrim's hunters.
#4 - Pilgrimage - Similar to Pilgrims for the Shrine of Azura, the player encounters a Pilgrim heading to Vivec. This pilgrim has several dialogue topics written out in full for subjects like the Tribunal, Vivec City, Vivec, Sotha Sil, Almalexia, St Nerevar and the Nerevarine.
#5 - House Recruits - Based off the Stormcloak/Imperials in Skyrim. The player could find recruits for Great Houses on the road. Recruits for different houses could have different dialogue options like the house itself, its capital, its beliefs and how to join them. Three small conversations have been written, one for each House. These topics include the house, its capital and how to join them.
Hope these are good enough, I'll keep thinking of more and writing dialogue for them. Would love some feedback.
Got another five, set out better and hopefully something that is good enough to be implemented in Skywind.
Event #1 - Guar Trader - A trader with his trusty guar, Sali. Player can trade with them and ask questions of Guars and about Sali herself. Dialogue has been written for questions on Guars and Sali.
Event #2 - Poorly Equipped Alchemist - An alchemist needs help finishing their potion. The player can help them complete the potion and receive a reward. Dialogue written and small quest-like idea has been given dialogue.
Event #3 - Skooma! - A crazy Khajiit is a feeling a bit odd. Player can talk with the mad Khajiit and learn more. Weird and wonderful dialogue has been written, but this encounter may not fit in due to its strange/whacky nature.
Event #4 - Cliff Racer Hunter - A hunter is being attacked by Cliff Racers - If hunter is saved, dialogue can be initiated on cliff racers and the hunter's story. Dialogue for different topics has been written.
Event #5 - Like Father, Like Son - A father and son are spending quality time together. Two concept scenarios have been written out, with one being basic conversation and another being an Archery Lesson.
Feedback both positive and negative is appreciated. Hope these are good enough for you.
Uh... hello? Anyone?
Hi all. I got really inspired when reading this thread and all of the brilliant suggestions and uploads - and especially from Mace and Bosch. You guys are all so creative it makes me even more excited about Skywind! So it made me want to join in so I sat down and wrote this little encounter. Hope it could be of some use - I would be happy for it to be adjusted anyway required for it to fit in if it can be used.
Here is an idea using entities called Soul Harvesters, who can be found taking the souls of creatures/NPCs in wilderness cells. They can trade/exchange soul gems with the Player, and might also be a source of Black soul gems, if these are to be implemented in SkyWind.
Here is another idea for random encounters involving characters I call Wilderness Priests, each of which are randomly associated with one of the Nine Divines of the Imperial Cult. They would be found traveling in wilderness cells, offering the Player healing/restorative blessings and some spells, potions, and ingredients for sale.
Hello, I would like to contribute. Is there a way to know for sure if you accept our writing submissions?
As far as I know, there is no way to know for certain whether or not your writing will be accepted, but there are few things that can increase your chances significantly.
The first one is pretty simple: have a go at it! Write the best you can and submit your idea in a format that is easy to read/follow and is well thought out. A good understanding of English language/grammar/spelling also helps I think :P
Even if your actual writing is not quite at the level required, you may provide an original idea which can be refined by another writer and used--and you'll still get some credit for it.
It really just comes down to this: if you don't try, you definitely won't get your work accepted :P. You have nothing to lose by giving it a go!
Writing my first forum post, so I hope it's a good one :D.
I spent a little time this morning making a template for random events to use while Smerk works on the final template (shout-out to Mace as I pretty much just copied over his format into a different form). It's for everyone to use so I highly suggest taking a glance at it.
I wanted to also take the time to reiterate of some of the points zlycher was making in his post about what the random events should include:
I'm not assuming to be somebody in charge. I have just been taking notes and gathering data from previous posts and just wanted to share it with everyone. I find that having this sort of prompt tends to lead myself (and hopefully others) in the right, creative direction.
Edit: BTW, I forgot to mention that in order to use the template, you should play around with SmartArt on MS Word, it's pretty straight forward and easy to use. Also I should have my own submission later on today.
Thanks guys for all your support. I'm afraid I have been busy and recently have been put out of commission. So I'm afraid that a template will be a little while away still.
@ShawnMilazzo we will most likely be using almost all idea's posted on this forum for random events . only regurgitated skyrim ideas will not be considered since our random events team already knows all the skyrim event's and where working off those ones already. Also do take note that not all random events are guaranteed to be in game the same way people write them. For quality's sake. But all new and/or good ideas will be implemented in game. so rest assured we will most likely use your event, but it might not be in the same format written.
@snapps5 on your template. I agree with the first part of your template but when you get to the flowchart there needs to be more dynamic system. Since not all random events will have a set number of options (There might be more options in some random events then what's in the flowchart). so if you can fix the flowchart issue I might agree to using your template as a main reference point, since I can't really work on a template in my current circumstance.
Keep the events coming guys. Where still active and watching. =)
Here is an idea involving random natural events, such as earthquakes, whirlpools, rock falls, flashfloods, poison vapors in swamps, and the like. These events might disorient or even injure the Player. No creatures or NPCs are involved.
I've finally got around to putting my idea down on the template. For better or worse here it is. Hope everyone enjoys.
Here is my first random event! I was here a few months ago doing cell dialog and thought I'd come back and give random events a go. Please tell if I did it right or if there are any changes I should make. Thanks! :)
I thought it would be great to meet groups that collect ash, and then export it to other regions of Tamriel as fertalizer (which volcano ash actually is). So i wrote this encounter of ash collectors.
Hope you like it :D
So, hey guys, I wrote this little encounter poking fun at players' tendency to over encumber their characters.
I'd like to know wether these encounters have to be dynamic, i.e. quest like, or if some dialogue for a traveller chance met on the road would also suffice.
Ok, here is my first quest. First off I would like to say without the format constructed by Bosch, I probably wouldn't have done this right. Second, I would like to apologize for not being able to include anymore quests as of this time. Third, I'm interested in the opinions of the players on my quests. Without the players, games do not exist.
I really like yours! I can tell you spent some time on it. I am not a mod or anything but I think you did it really well. My only question is, would a Arena have to be built for this random encounter to work? Because to my knowledge a Arena never existed in Morrowind.
Would a sudden fort attack be accepted when you get nearby and you are asked to join the fight?
Erm, maybe so I don't know. I think the point of random events is that they are small events that you run into during your travels. So a full out castle siege would be a little much I think. But as long as it's a small event, I think you can do whatever you imagine, within reason.
I forgot to mention that my first quest is about a possible arena being built in Skywind.
Sorry, I accidentally double posted.
@ Sputnik Thanks for the response on the quest! The quest took me longer to make than intended that's for sure lol. No actual arena would exist. It's more text based role playing through the notes. You never see your picked gladiator in combat because they are in oblivion fighting. The arena never gets made in sky wind. My intentions are if someone likes this quest enough they build the arena in skywind.
About your robber quest. About halfway through the reading the writing becomes all one meshed and unreadable, it might because I'm on an iPad. So far what I see it looks good! Will update you when I get on my PC.
Hello everyone! Here is another Random Event I did. Please leave any comments or feedback you have!
@ShawnMillazo: I think the reason my first one was hard to read was because you didn't enable editing, which puts it in the right format.
A LITTLE OFF TOPIC: A while ago back I did some dialog for Gnisis. I never finished it, but I had the Gnisis Barracks 60-85% complete. If you wanted to paste any of the dialog into the script for the Gnisis Baracks, then here it is, and if not, then just disregard this. Also, it has not been edited very much, so it could probably use a little bit of changing. Despite, here it is, use it how you want.
Sputnick, the Gnisis Barracks was finished by AngryWoman. This is also not the correct Thread for it, but don't worry about it.
I decided to give a try at this with a simple encounter involving a traveling troupe of performers and "The tale of the Three Legged Guar". Its the type of encounter the player just watches and then has the option to purchase the script off one of the actors at the end. Meant to be comedic.
@ Sputnick: Yeah, I think you're right. After looking at mine I saw that it didn't have the format I used originally.
@ toxictaliban: Check your pm =)
Hey everyone, this is my first post, but I wanted to share an idea I had for a random event, involving an argument between Imperial Cult and Almsivi followers. I haven't gone over all of the ideas posted here, so if someone else has already put forward something similar, I apologize.
Hey guys! I was directed to this thread in response to my asking if there were any more writing gigs open for the project. Looks like this is still open, so I've begun writing a random event segment. Before I get too deep, I'd like to run it by the group and see if this idea is too ambitious..
The idea is that the player can randomly encounter a "wandering scholar" who is looking for a particular unique item, offering only vague descriptions of both the item and its location. The player can either follow the scholar, steal the documents from the scholar, murder the scholar for her documents, or simply ascertain whereabouts the item is that the scholar is headed towards.
This would require a lot of dialog (specific to each unique item in the game that is otherwise undiscoverable unless one looks up its location online or in a guide book - i.e., the Fang of Haynekhtnamet) so I thought I should see if this idea would be too big to manage in the mod or not. Let me know your thoughts! I'd love some input (or warnings not to continue writing the first bit).
I'm intrigued by the law on Vvardenfell against necromancy despite its use in the Dunmer's ancestral tombs, so I wrote a random encounter for it. I enjoyed it so much, I also made a quest version, and if you guys want I'll write up a questline to follow it.
Here's my first "Wandering Scholar" encounter. I did a quick edit pass on it, so there may be an error or two remaining. Just wanted to get it out for you all to see and dissect.
As I explained in my previous post, these encounters are based on unique items in the game that are otherwise undiscoverable without the help of guides or searching for their location on forums. Thought it would add a bit of authentic immersion as well as encouragement to keep exploring throughout the game. Let me know what you think of it - thanks!
RE: Takeshidude's random encounter...
That's pretty interesting... It's just enough to get the player intrigued but also (if not a quest) small enough to be tossed away as "just another day in Vvardenfell" kind of moment. Nice way to encourage societal immersion and innate questioning of the people and their practices! Good writing too!
I have an idea for a random encounter that might be interesting. What if you add one more quest to the twin lamps where you help a radical twin lamps member to assault a non essential plantation in the ascadian isles, kill all the slavers and free al the slaves. After this random encounters would pop up around the ascadian isles of freed slaves robbing travelers, trying to rob you, fighting one of the military powers (house, temple or legion), or just being friendly and passing trough. When talking to them they would justify their actions by saying that they are just taking back what was taken from the. This would make it feel you had an impact on the world, while leaving it ambiguous whether that impact was positive or negative.
I think it would add a bit of life to Vvardenfell if, as you wandered the coast, you would come across one or two fishermen. They wouldn't even need to say anything beyond, "Nice day, isn't it?" or "Have you been to Seyda Neen? (or equivalent small coastal village) I hear its nice this time of year." Small, non-interactive encounters like this will really make the island seem more alive.
Hey, I am sorry, I just now realise that you want a .doc file with my sugestion. Here is a rough sketch of what I had in mind.
It's a while since I've written anything, so i thought I might give it another shot just for fun! I've also included some of the random event I previously submitted, as I don't know if any of you managed to read it.
Here're some random events. First three are based on the "smoking tradtions of Vvardenfell" thread from /r/TESlore.
1. Player meets a wandering sect and may join them in smoking
2. PLayer meets a wandering sect, but they are busy.
3. Player meets a wandering sect, fighting with ash spawns. Player may participate in fight
4. Player finds a group of vampires, listening to a propaganda of Worm Cultist.
Also there was the idea of using st. Jiub somewhere in previous posts. Maybe you should also be able to simply hear his voive from afar, but when you move closer there's only blood and dead Cliffriders.
Hey, so I figure I should probably put some clarifying information here, just so that everyone knows what's going on. This thread is, to a large extent, dead. We tried a certain organizational structure that just didn't really work out. Too much variation in submissions, and just too difficult to keep it organized. Which means, unfortunately, that a lot of what's here right now will have to be scrapped.
At the moment, I'm spearheading this project by way of private messaging with a small group of writers, with the idea of having a more... structured system in place. That being said, if any of you here are willing to dedicate a good amount of time to this, are confident in your writing abilities, and really feel a calling to this project, feel free to send me a message and we can consider adding you to the group. Ideally, we want to keep things as small as possible, but we're more than willing to stretch that for good talent.
Sorry for the inconvenience, everyone. If it means anything, I'll be combing through this thread for good scenes that can be re-purposed using our new formats, so not everything should go to waste.
