[WIP/RELz] Clannfear

The initial model was done by Kura, and then resculpted and polypainted by Ravanna. All I did was make the low rez and bake out all the maps. TEAM EFFORT GO!!

Does it need a voice?  Does anything need a voice?  Give me a sound to make and I'll black-guy-from-Police-Academy that sound to hell and back!  With a love note from Satan himself signed with a kiss and sealed with the tears of the damned.  Also ample postage comprised of rare Venezuelan stamps because seemingly random and specific things are said to be funnier than non-seemingly random and/or generalities.

Sounds?  Sounds!  I do them.  Clanfear.  Roar!  Good look.  Great job.

Lovely!

Lovely!

I've just joined, and wanted to introduce myself. I'm the artist who was lucky enough to designed the Clannfear many years ago for Battlespire. Nice to see they still have fans.

Not sure how useful this might be, but I've been working on a page or two for my website with intention of filling in a  little history. I've also finished up a few sketches that show how I originally saw them in my head, but perhaps had not the skill to reproduce.

If anyone's interested email me, or wait until I update the site with sketches and some new Zbrush models. Not sure how much use they'd be at this point, but it might give everyone a different take.

Hello Mr Jones, creatures

Hello Mr Jones, creatures took a back seat this year, right now aerisan and others are working on the tech/animation side.
We are restricted in many ways, but when we have time, and if you want to help with designs, we can nail the entire set of stuff we havent done/stuff to be done.

Amazing, I love it! I like it even more than the original design. And nice to see someone who has worked on Battlespire. Awesome.

@Mark Jones. That's great to

@Mark Jones. That's great to see here original author of vanilla series' creatures. Clannfear is great original thing in bunch of humanoid daedra.

I have a questions related, if you don't mind:
Why there are so many creatures in Morrowind with Triceratops' head adornments?
And was Clannfear planned from start as Daedra or was it planned as animal-creature before?

The Clannfear is a Daedra

The Clannfear is a Daedra that goes back to Battlespire. This was meant as a small 'skunk works' project, small team, small window (3 Months was planned), and was being worked on as Redguard was being produced, and between Daggerfall and Morrowind.

Consequently we had to work very efficiently. The character work I did for the project (along with textures, UI, and cover) had to reuse models, animations, etc, to get things finished within the time limit. I think the Clannfear was a sketch I had been working on for Morrowind, and had done some 3D 'sketching', so it was re-purposed as a Daedra. Now I'm getting hazyhere, this was a long time ago. :) I had imagined it as a cross between a bird, lizard and a Giger like 'alien'. Throw in some Pumpkinhead and you have the Clannfear. Gotta love some Pumpkinhead. Just gotta. It's a Daedra after all. It did come out a tad too reptilian perhaps. I'm including a sketch which shows the Battlespire version, and the version I would create today. The following versions in other titles all went more dinosaur.

I would have loved to work on these more. I have SO MANY IDEAS for them. A Daedric beast/slave race? Are these things trained? Are they bred/cross bred for different traits? Do some escape? Go wild? Do they pit fight Clannfear? Can they have special markings or tattoos? What does a grizzled, fight-worn Clannfear looks like? (I know ;) )

Babbling....

Sorry

 As to Morrowind...

I might be at fault there. I really wanted to work on dragons, and had done so in Daggerfall. It was 3D, animated, and lovely (Well, in my mind I remember it that way, it was probably crap ;) ) I have some version of it left in the Dark Seducer. Her flapping was based on the Daggerfall dragon's. ANYWAY.... As there were no dragons, I had to content myself to creating scaly critters instead. :) So some of that influence may have seeped into the rest of Morrowind.

It was Dragon Envy.

ClannFEAR should be scary.

ClannFEAR should be scary. Ripping, tearing, slashing, screeching, crazy-eyed, vulture-demons.

With frills.

Kinda puts out original

Kinda puts out original attempt to shame now.

I'm hoping to discuss new creature pipeline soon with aerisan and others, such as which skyrim skeletons to use and morph, what new animations are required.

Stick around, there may be developments

That's cool to know, thanks

That's cool to know, thanks for the answer.

And that:
{ I would have loved to work on these more. I have SO MANY IDEAS for them. A Daedric beast/slave race? Are these things trained? Are they bred/cross bred for different traits? Do some escape? Go wild? Do they pit fight Clannfear? Can they have special markings or tattoos? What does a grizzled, fight-worn Clannfear looks like? }
is really interesting theme.

Daedric creatures looks pretty unrelated to each other. That would be great to make some graphical or other same feature for all Daedra to look alien to this world (and to have something same between them). They could be turning to dust/statues after death or something alike.

Gracile and thin Clannfear looks awesome. It should be really emaciated if he can't eat food of this world.
And it's much better and more alien than some generic dragon.

No! Not at all!

In fact that was what brought me to this site, finding that Clannfear on the web, and being so impressed by it. For me, it looks much closer to how I saw the Clannfear than the direction they went in.

COMPLIMENT PART: It looks

COMPLIMENT PART: It looks very good, great.
---
USEFUL PART: I would make leg more wide than arms, and 'd add more muscles and tendons.
Neck would use some more power too, such massive head need more strength in it.

It's based on the Battlespire

It's based on the Battlespire Clannfear, not the later versions. This one is close to the original proportions, but of course it will need to be 'fitted' to use the werewolf skeleton. This version is my version. There'll be another that's tweak to fit :)

go for a baking capture low

go for a baking capture low poly of 10k triangles.
Can always reduce later, collapsing edges avoiding the seams.

Will wait until the UV stage to butt in again ^_^
