Scenes

Hi,

I see a lot of people with no knowledge of CK or with a more litterary-oriented mind that would like to help and we don't often have tasks for them as the dialog lines already exist.

Here's a thread for you guys.

We might at some point implement new NPC scenes to make the Skywind world even more immersive. What do I mean ? this: IIRC when you arrive for the first time in Riverwood in Skyrim, there's an old woman shouting that the dragons are back and someone calling her crazy. And this happens without requiring the player to do anything.

Imagine, you arrive in Seyda Neen and you see Fargoth actually being harrassed by guards. Wouldn't that be great?

I propose you post your scenes ideas in this thread and we would select the ones that work the best.

Please follow a template like:

Where:

When:

NPCs:

Dialogs:

This is not a high priority on our todo list so it might be a while before you see them in-game but that gives you the time to propose plenty of ideas.

Now, RULES:

- Keep the scenes short and lore-friendly, please.

- Write the dialogues in correct english

- if you post a scene, post a full fleshed scene, not just some random ideas ("this dude is angry and the other dude unsheathes his mace and then the first dude is dead").

- do not clutter this thread please. I will clean up as I please :D

- give CONSTRUCTIVE criticism

Where: Hills East of Suran,

Where:
Hills East of Suran, wherever the hell Umbra is.

When:
Anytime.

NPCs:
-Umbra
-Random Adventurer

Dialogs:
The player heres fighting in the distance, and should they follow the sound of one-on-one battle, they will find themselves at end of a short mountain path, an orc clad in armor stands above a defeated opponent. He leans down/crouches to 'examine' the kill.

Umbra: Today was neither mine, nor yours. Rest in peace in whichever afterlife you claim. (maybe make it specific if their are multiple templates for the random adventurer. "Go to Sovngarde in peace." if Nord. "The Keeper of the Bloody Oath will find use for you, I know." if a fellow Orc. etc.)

If player moves within an understandable visible range, Umbra will call them to him.

Umbra: You seem... Different. You're not cut from the same cloth as the average mercenary traveling the roads. Come, I would speak to you.

The player then has the choice, naturally, to speak to Umbra or walk away. No further special dialog.

Is it possible to create

Is it possible to create conditions related to the main quest? I think it would be very cool to have the people of Vvardenfell slowly lose their minds and prophesy the return of Dagoth Ur in every city as you go through the quests.

Where: Sadrith Mora, outside Tel Naga

When: Daytime

NPCs: Drodos Galen & Endar Drenim

Dialogs:

Drodos: Have you heard about Master Neloth's apprentice?

Endar: Which one?

Drodos: Wha - the one he supposedly used as a test subject, turned into a mudcrab and ate!

Endar: You're new here aren't you?

Drodos: Doesn't this concern you?

Endar: No, no... If you knew Master Neloth you would know he actually did much, much worse.

Drodos: By the Three; why was he even punished?

Endar: Master Neloth is particular about his tea.

Absolutely brilliant! One thing, though: "By the Three" is generally what would be said. Everyone knows which Three is being referred to, and it falls much more naturally off the tongue.

Hi everyone, first time

Hi everyone, first time poster, longer time lurker. As I do not 'yet' posess any modelling skills or a pc rig, that could handle that either, my humble capabilities are rather limited. And as I'm no artist either, it's bad, considering I really wanna help this project.

The first idea I got:

Where: Seyda Neen

When: Daytime

NPCs:

 - Guard

- Vodunius Nuccius

Dialogs:

Guard: I presume you haven't seen the tax collector Processus Vitellius, have you?

Nuccius: No, I haven't, at least that much luck I still have. Why should I?

Guard: Well, I heard you're little low on coin and...

Nuccius: What?! I do not know, where the tax collector might be and I couldn't care less if he's lying dead somewhere in this bloody swamp! Leave me be.

Guard: (to himself) Perhaps that's a clue. He was known to love shortcuts, seems like he found a dead end.

Updated my Neloth scene with

Updated my Neloth scene with the appropriate ''By the three'' expression :)

Where: Vivec City

When: Anytime

NPCs: Ordinators

Dialogs: Various passages from the lessons of Vivec spoken by idle Ordinators as prayer.

''The ending of the words is Almsivi''

''I am the Face-Snaked Queen of the Three in One. In you is an image and a seven-syllable spell, Ayem Ae Sehti Ae Vehk, which you will repeat to it until mystery comes.''

''I am the Clockwork King of the Three in One. In you is an egg of my brother-sister, who possesses invisible knowledge of words and swords, which you shall nurture until the Hortator comes.''

''God hath three keys; of birth, of machines, and of the words between.''

''There is an eon within itself that when unraveled becomes the first sentence of the world.''

''The Sun shall be eaten by lions, which cannot be found yet in Veloth.''

''There is a world that is sleeping and you must guard against it. For by the sword I mean the dual nature, For by the word I mean animal life, For by the sword I mean preceded by a sigh, For by the word I mean preceded by a wolf.''

I must admit that I don't

I must admit that I don't like to treat writing this way. It's like doing the landscaping by everybody from every department, just throwing in some rocks and trees in a region, when they feel like it. Or drawing concept art, with everybody drawing one part of the creature each.

While I think there should be an "ideas thread" for inspiration, I suggest that in the end, the writing is divided up into claims. One claim for each city or region. That way there is a consistent "vision" for each region or town, which in turn would make the gaming experience and the world more immersive.

I also suggest that we discuss a general vision for the conversations. I kinda see Morrowind, as the wild west of Tamriel. The silence, the "you-don't-bother-us-we-don't-bother-you" attitude and off course the gossip that exists in every small town. People don't like strangers and they don't like speaking a lot.

This is off course only relevant if we decide that the NPCs should have conversations. :)

EDIT: To me it would also be extremely interesting to get a discussion going on the "personality" of each city, town and hold. I want to be able to "feel" the mood of the places. :)

How about a short mention of

How about a short mention of Tarhiel?

Where: Seyda Neen

When: Daytime

NPCs: Random

Dialogs:

NPC-1: I saw something in the sky... I'm not sure, but I think it was a bosmer.

NPC-2: Go get some sleep before you start seeing flying mudcrabs.

Probably second dialog you'll hear somewhere near Telvanni Towers, I figured that out from Tarhiel's diary:

"They laughed at me when I suggested this. We'll see who laughs after I leap to the top of their towers and scream out my success."

Where: Sadrith Mora

When: Daytime

NPCs: Random Telvanni Mages

Dialogs:

Mage-1: And then that smart aleck said: I'll leap on your towers, you'll see!

Mage-2: Where's he anyway?

Mage-1: Probably getting high somewhere. <laughs>

This is a good

This is a good point, Hovercat.

It's immediately apparent that there is a different mood depending on the city that you're in, being that Morrowind is divided in culture by its different houses as well as its unique climate. As you can see above you have the religious, worshiping feel of Vivec and the Indoril contrasting the crazy antics of Telvanni wizards on Vvardenfell’s eastern coast. Likewise, the business-oriented and Imperial-inspired lifestyle of the Hlaalu would impact the way they speak, their interests, their fears and how they view Vvardenfell as a whole.

Ultimately it will be up to the people in charge to filter through the poor suggestions from the good to coordinate dialog to be recorded and implemented in-game. I firmly believe that Twisted Logic added some brilliant dialog for my previous suggestion regarding the Ordinators and that we could benefit similarly from people working together rather than have individuals write scenes for an entire region.

Having each region and town

Having each region and town tell a "story" requires oversight. I agree that there is some great writing in this thread already, and I don't think that it should stop :)

My suggestion would be to have everyone contribute with scenes but have one person in charge of each region or claim. An editor if you will. Making sure that the tone is consistent and the quality is good - inside guidelines defined by the community.

Don't panic, everything will be just fine   1: Nevertheless, share your experience   2: It is not just for beauty, that we have these helmets with masks. Perp is not afraid of a guard, he is  afraid of Order of the Watch and gods in the name of which we guard. The main thing is to show your  superiority, as for me, the magic phrase "We are watching you, scum" helped me every time. This phrase can make the darkest soul feel insignificant in comparison with Tribonal   1: Thank you(goes away mumbling "magic phrase")

This arena was used for duels in Morrowind, not really just bloodsport.

Though I could definitely see it being rented out to different groups.  Throughout a weekly schedule, perhaps?  Redoran warrior training one day, children acting out scenes from the 36 lessons in full regalia with their parents looking on, middle-aged Dunmer yoga classes, Kagouti-baiting with a pack of nix-hounds... maybe just a day every now and then for gladiatoral battles of slaves and bet-taking.  This would make those nights gladiators fight seem more special.

-------------------

Question to everyone concerned; Wouldn't it be a good idea to remove the ''Little advice & Latest Rumor'' dialog options from the conversation menus and make them into scenes for NPCs? This would simultaneously make the conversation box with NPCs far less cluttered and give us a way to add a lot of immersion to Skywind.

In a world where knowing

In a world where knowing levitation is mandatory for maneuvering through Sadrith Mora, should this even be outlandish, though?

At any rate, if anyone writes good scenes for any characters I'm voicing, I'll gladly record lines for them.  Maybe we could have someone working on this, editing 'rumors' to use in various dialoguey bits between characters, and eventually include a spread-sheet of unique dialog for the characters so the voice actors can knock them out when they're working on the main lines?

Where: Ald'ruhn, Skar,

Where: Ald'ruhn, Skar, Redoran Headquarters

When: When we first visit Redoran Headquarters

NPCs: Bolvyn Venim, two of his personal guards, Athyn Sarethi, Neminda.

As you enter the Redoran hedquarters you see Bolvyn Venim geared in his Traditional Ebony Armour, as he is having an argument with Athyn Sarethi.

Dialogs:
Bolvyn - "OUT OF MY WAY, S'WIT!"
Athyn - "You've changed, Bolvyn... I remember when you and Varvur were riding guars together, as small brats. You should know better."
Bolvyn - "This is the last time I warn you, councilor. One more word, and he pays with his head."

The dialogue is done. Bolvyn Venim and two of his personal guards march out back to his manor. Bolvyn has a furious face and shouts "GET OUT OF MY WAY" if we stand too close. Athyn stays there for a while and looks at Bolvyn going away. When the archmaster is out, another dialogue starts:

Neminda - "Don't worry sera. It's all going to right itself out."
Athyn - "Thank you, child. But I don't think Bolvyn is going to step aside. He's grown stubborn and arrogant, he'll never admit to his wrong. Now excuse me, I have duties ahead of me."

Athyn Sarethi walks back to his manor and the scene ends. If we try to start a dialogue with Athyn he'd say "It's none of your concerns."

This scene has a few purposes. First - it's going to give us a hint of that spicy conflict between Bolvyn and Athyn, getting us interested in the internal politics of Redoran while we go off looking for some pesky crabs in the wilds. It allows us to see the leader and one of the councilors we'll be working for the most. It will also give some more character to Neminda, who was painfully bland in Morrowind and was just an obvious quest giver that didn't even seem to belong to House Redoran.
And of course - it will showcase the awesome Traditional Ebony Armour and tease us to get it some day :P Other than that - it will give those NPC's a bit more life. In vanilla Morrowind they never even leave their houses, freaking no-lives.

This is probably going to be

This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion but scenes like this really killed the immersion for me in Skyrim. It's fine during the first playthrough, but when you're greeted with the same scenes every time you enter a city on a new character, it feels really artificial and repetitive, like the NPCs are just standing around waiting for you to show up.

This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion but scenes like this really killed the immersion for me in Skyrim. Pushing this to the extreme, playing the same quests in different playthrough is repetitive? Or cutscenes in games?

Obviously, this shouldn't be "truman show"-like, just triggered when you come in the city, there should be an organic flow to it.

No real plan for the moment, I just gather scene ideas. If we have the time to implement it, it turns out well and we don't have a barrage of no-sayers, I guess we would include it in the master.

Out of curiosity, scenes can contain conditional parts, can't they? What about random elements, just little things to stop them being exactly the same every time?

Not sure if Neminda would use Dunmeri words though, she's an n'wah after all ;) Maybe she got assimilated enough though. I just had this long, long thought, when I remembered a scene from Django with black, female slave was calling guests "mister". For some, totally not racist reason I thought that would work well with Neminda too :P Sera would definetly work though.

About the other thing, I think n'wah and fetcher are not the best insults for Athyn. I don't think it would make sense to call him an outlander or a thief, but a softwit would do indeed.

I doubt she'd use the insults, but Venim would likely insist on being called "serjo" rather than "mister".

Huh? She was talking to Athyn, not Bolvyn... I edited the dialogue and added Dunmeri words, anyway.

Sorry. Didn't remember exactly what the dialog said and did a quick skim. That's what I get for not paying attention!

While I've always wondered

While I've always wondered why that ship never left, I do have a need for it now. Morroblivion uses the beds there for all the guards around town. Therefore, if we have the ship leave, we need another building with enough beds for the imperials to use. Right now I don't think there are enough but we could always rotate schedules so some guards sleep during the day.

Where: Random Dunmer town's

Where: Random Dunmer town's square, but not too far from Vivec (Balmora, Suran, Vivec, Ald'Ruhn)

When: When PC comes there for the first time.

NPCs: Indoril Inquisitor, Indoril Warrior, two Indoril Watchmen, new NPC - Selyn Toril.

We witness four Indoril members, of three different orders, surrounding a Dunmer dressed in rags, with moon and star painted on his face. Townfolk stop by to watch from a distance whenever they happen to walk past the scene.

Dialogs:

Inquisitor: "You've been accused of spreading heresy among the faithful people of this town. What do you have for your defence?"

Selyn: "That is not heresy. It is the truth, but you can not see it! You are blinded!"

Inquisitor: "Truth, is it?"

Selyn: "He has awaken! Under the Red Mountain, he's opened his eyes, I heard him in my dreams. You can not stop me, for only I can stop HIM! I AM NEREVAR REBORN! I AM..."

Inquisitor: "That's enough! You got it all wrong, poor madman. You will be transported to the Ministry of Truth, so that you can tell lies from true again."

Selyn takes out a knife, and Indoril all take out their weapons.

Indoril Warrior: "Go on. Struggle. Make my day."

Selyn: "I AM THE NERE..."

Selyn's head is smashed by the mace of Indoril Warrior.

Inquisitor: "May his soul find peace in death. Tell priests at the Temple they have a corpse to burn."

Watchman: "What are you looking at? Go back to your chores! This petty heretic will bother you no more."

Watchman2: "Move it, scum!"

Townfolk goes back to their everyday routine, while Indoril march out of the city. Body disappears when we go in and out of an interior, or when we wait.

Very brutal, and it shows the zero tolerance religious zeal of house Indoril. I say this is a great idea!

Well in that case... Uh... My comedy scene with the imperial who thinks he's the Nerevarine - have the dissident priest strangle-shank him with a shank strangler or something at the end?
