[WIP] Kwama Worker / Queen Modeling

I've been assigned the Kwama worker so I worked on a quick study of the worker today. Gonna start modeling the worker in a couple of days to explore the shapes better. Should be fun :P

Alright if you're foreign I

Alright if you're foreign I could give you a pass on the misspellings, but at least be consistent with your misspellings.  Also, kwama's in the title of the thread for Vec's sake.

Grammar Nazi's get banned

Grammar Nazi's get banned here.  We all are from different countries and write in different languages. So I would politely say put up with it. The project and development are way more important than a few misspelled words or poorly executed grammar.

If you wish to contribute that is great, or you just wish to give your opinion on the directions of the project is fine too. But to be critical of others use of the English language is not a good foot to get off on here with about half the team being non English speaking members.

this method of the kwama

this method of the kwama laying eggs though cool is not quite accurate considering that the queen is the one that lays the eggs. The kwama are not the "flood" from "Halo". :p

You need to combine frog

It possible to obtain interesting form mixing frog/amphibian anatomy and anatomy of big, slow ants such as Camponotus or Dinoponera. I can draw some concept if anyone interested to realize it.

Some leg explorations before I jump into 3D. Didn't have a ton of time to flesh everything out as well as I'de have liked to but still wanted to get something online to show my thoughts.

I really enjoy the upper part

I really enjoy the upper part of 2, and all of 5, 6, and 9.

2 has a that great bone look that sets it apart from the other insect-derived creatures of Vvardenfell.

5 appeals to my inner love of spikey things... Spikes are just so evil looking. It'd be nice to have that Bonewalker variant of the worker husk with the leg shape from 5.

Not sure how 6 would work, but the thought is cool. Not sure there are any cold areas on the morrowind mainland, but it's nice to think that some sub-species somewhere is built like this.

and 9 would make the worker look a lot more protected... for obvious reasons. Looks like it would be used for chitinous armor of some sort -wink wink-

My favorite of those is 9.

My favorite of those is 9.  The workers aren't aggressive, in fact most means aren't aggressive at all. They're the chickens of Vvardenfell, and would need protection.  These guys have a crazy life cycle, though, as I'm sure you're aware, so make sure the models look alright reversed and standing upright after a kwama forager has crawled up the butt of a dead worker and converted it into a warrior from the inside.  Maybe have some 'forager' flesh holding parts of the carapace together where the original membranes have rotted away?

Seven is more effective

Seven is more effective/realistic hinder leg than any other.
What is that baneling bulbs on worker's dorsal_side/back?

I think kwama can be like this, based on idea that it's burrowing underground species - with molecricket legs.
Also you can create larvae/forager glowing in worker's (or soldier) head socket.

also i dislike eso because al there creatures looks so boring not interesting at al (the kwama in particular)

also where do you get your fact from smitehammer  are you sure the are dead when a forager go in a worker i thought it was more there way of life to become the living arms and legs for a forager when the come of old age also there antennas stil move what would be usles if u are daed

I suppose they could still be

I suppose they could still be alive, technically, but there would still have to be a way for the larval forager form to take over the body of the worker, like a parasite.  I had just thought it was akin to a hermit crab taking over the shell of a dead snail, that the forager would grow to fill a hollowed exoskeleton and get nutrition from breaking down the worker.  As far as I can tell the concept art you posted and other concept art similar is all we have to on for their life cycle - and ESO didn't even seem to go with that, opting instead for just different body types entirely for the different roles... How boring.

Seems the skeleton for the workers could be 'cow', slow and plodding, while warriors could be based off the gargoyle perhaps?  They look like they would move and attack in similar ways.

First: The legs can not be

First: The legs can not be three jointed, we don't have a rig for that. (Edit) I can do a hindleg like a cat or dog for jumping, but not a reverse joint for "thrust"

Second: The rig planned is the bear, as it already has an animation for getting up on its back legs.

Third: The sacks on its back are in both the Kirkbride sketches and the original model, thus why I am using them.

The major challenge with this creature is maintaining the original silhouette and feel of the older creature but basically making him high rez. The original Kwama model was devoid of detail so I am basically trying to figure out what details to add in. As much as I would love to add two more legs, make things three jointed, change the entire silhouette, or just simply make something entirely custom, I am limited by a few things.

Thanks for answers.

Thanks for answers.

> The legs can not be three jointed, we don't have a rig for that.
Please clarify:

1) Is it all legs of (wolves, bear, sabercat) in game have 2 joints, or just forelegs? (because nixhound-on-wolf looks adequate)
2) Do you plan make kwama worker with forelegs and hindpaw equal type?

I imagined that all models of kwamas will be rigged on ashhoppers, spiders or other insectoid basis.

I just looked at the rig, I may have a bit more freedom that I originally anticipated with that hindleg. I will have to test a couple things, but the concept for the leg you posted is still not really an option.

= that's good. What soft you will use for animation?

> The sacks on its back are in both the Kirkbride sketches
I anticipated/assumed that they are caused by blight/corprus disease (because they very irregular and looks unfunctional).

I can certainly thin him down

I can certainly thin him down. Everything has been ZRemeshed so I have a lower rez thing to scale from. Too thin feels weird because of the forager having to go through him. But yea, thinning him is easy

I'd say make him thin as you

I'd say make him thin as you please - especially in the mid-section.  The forager is almost like an annelid worm, so I'm sure he can stretch and thin himself down to fit almost any narrow-ness (just look at an earthworm).

Is there a way for the warrior to have a backwards posture, by the way?  If you look at the concept art and in-game models of the Morrowind kwama their forelegs sort of bend backward in warrior-form.  What used to be a shovel-like mouth of the worker becomes a sort of 'shield' for the back of the forager's "neck", so the warrior is an upright worker, walking backwards.

I thought first sec about

I thought first sec about bear-space_marine.

Good work. Plating suits to model more than a sacks.
I share the wish of Ravanna of bit more agile form, may be not so agile as Nix Hound but slightly less bulky - now it looks to me like a waterbear (phylum Tardigrada) but they are microscopic.

Еxcuse me for criticism but: Paws look non-functional - it's probably difficult to stand on the tips of claws. I wish to rearrange fingers/toys to plantigrade position.

no1: stop the morrowind

no1: stop with the nagging of missing morrowind designs/ideas like antennas, or anything else, we are creating something on our own here, inspired by morrowind, when will you understand this?

What do it need for lattice cheeks? Does it have some function?

just make it fat. Very fat. May be several-rooms-fat.

Queen: I simply have not had ANY time to work on this. I got it as far done as I can right now, but I have so much thesis, portfolio, GDC, and blizzard work to do that I have had to put this on hold overall. I would love to be able to add surface detail, just dont have a day to spend doing it. Files are being sent over, everything has polypaint info and sculpted info, probably just needs more detail and a better paint.

All good RibTibs, do don't

All good RibTibs, do not feel pressured into working yourself into a stress. We'd much prefer that you have fun with it and work on it when you do have time.

Basically we do not want to lose your talent altogether, we'd prefer to have just glimpses of it when we are lucky enough.

We have all year to wait for it :)
